Lots of lovely houseboats in Pin Mill, which is right by Ipswich. My sister’s son and his wife lived on one for a while and so did my sister’s ex and his wife. I’ve been on both boats. I had a romantic notion that I’d like to live on one too, but the reality is they are high maintenance, especially in the winter. I’d prefer a place where I could just live, as opposed to a place I have to keep afloat.
True, the reality may not match the romance. But I’d still be willing to give it a whirl. I think it may even be the ‘maintenance’ that appeals to me, a kind of forced engagement with your surroundings that keeps you on your toes. Waldenesque. (However, given that I have no idea what I’m talking about ‘maintenance or other’ wise, could be I’d jump ship after a day!)

And why don’t WE have places with lovely names like Pin Mill??
