We were one of the first tours to go through Kingston Penitentiary when it closed. Many cells were still full of personal effects left behind and one cell still housed an inmate too ill to be transferred.

Walking through the grounds we passed one of the guards, in uniform, carrying this set of keys. I asked if I could photograph them. She said yes.

It was harrowing, to say the least, to see the inside of this building, but of all the pictures I took that day, this one gives me the most chills.
