  1. If anyone had asked me the colour of fire hydrants, I’d have said “red.” Am I out of touch, stuck in some time warp when hydrants were red? Did the colour scheme change when I wasn’t looking? Did I miss the newspaper debate about red vs yellow? Is it regional? Now I’m on a mission to see what colour the hydrants are in my town. If they’re all yellow, I’m going to need therapy. Carin – look what you’ve done.

    1. Ha! I do kind of remember when they changed from red. About two million years ago I think… (what, you didn’t get the memo??)

Once you start noticing them, you’ll find they come in a variety of colours. I even saw a red one today. In some towns they’ve had students paint them in themes: animals, flowers, abstract designs (downtown Oshawa, for instance).

I suspect most people manage to live very happy lives without ever noticing hydrants… I on the other hand have a strange fascination with them. It’s possible I was a border collie in a former life. ;)

  2. Me, too, I’ve only ever imagined that fire hydrants are red. I’ll have to look next time I’m out walking to make sure that’s true and not a long-ago memory.
I love how you show us the variety of possibilities in a colour scheme using the yellow hydrant as focus.

    1. Thank you. I love that you see that.

p.s. They may still be red in Mtl.; I’m thinking now I may have to do a cross-country survey! ;)
