We used to have one when I was growing up. I liked the idea of the ladder up the side and thought it might be fun to climb. I’m pleased to report I never did. Perhaps it’s BECAUSE I never did that I’m here to report it… (:
Reminds me of the excitement in the 1950s: “We’ve got a TV.” I was five in 1953 when I ran to my friend Betty’s house, yelling the phrase at the top of my lungs. The Lone Ranger and Tonto, right in my living room.
Oh wow. What a great memory! I don’t recall The Big Day but am guessing we got one early 60’s; first thing I remember watching is Romper Room so must have been quite young. (And I see Betty-Jo and Henry and Sally… rarely did she see ‘Carin’ or even Karen. But it’s okay. I’m over it. The scars have almost healed.) (Almost.) [sniff]
What a terrific nostalgia-packed shot — and what fun that “wordlessness” has already, so early in the day, generated the great little stories in comments above!
I’ve seen the person who lives there, an elderly man, maybe on his own. So it could be he’s not bothered with the need for a lot of channels. Happy with re-runs of Bonanza. (if only… is that even still on anywhere?) Something charming about the simplicity of it though, don’t you think?
I didn’t even know those existed any more!

But, but … how does it fly, Carin?
Ha! Exactly. I can see kids of the future stumbling upon this and assuming it’s some very high tech thing. Beam me up!
I still see many of those around.
After this one caught my eye I began looking for others and… none. Of course it’s become a thing now. Always looking at rooftops!

It’s either nostalgia or wha’ the??? Depending on vintage. (;
My first thought was the same as Sheryl’s. Is there any signal still for it to pick up?
